Aberdeen University to celebrate MRI pioneer - Grampian Online

The University of Aberdeen is set to hold a memorial event in August to honor Professor John Mallard, who passed away in February 2021 at the age of 94. Mallard led the team that built the first whole-body MRI scanner, revolutionizing medical treatment worldwide. The event will provide an opportunity for friends, family, colleagues, and the public to pay tribute to his life and work. Mallard joined the University of Aberdeen in 1965 as its first Professor of Medical Physics and played a significant role in the development of MRI technology. His contributions to medical imaging, including PET scanning, are still recognized today. The memorial will be held on August 19 at the King's College Chapel.
